Football player Santi Mina sentenced to four years in prison for sex abuse

The Audiencia of Almería accuses the Celta player of a crime of sexual abuse and sentences him to four years in prison. David Goldar, player of Ibiza, is acquitted.

The Celta player, Santi Mina, has been convicted of a crime of sexual abuse of a woman on 18 June 2019 in Mojácar, being acquitted of the crime of sexual assault which was the one requested by the Prosecutor's Office and the prosecution. In addition, Santi Mina must pay compensation of 50,000 euros to the victim of the assault and a restraining order of 500 metres for more than a decade.

The sentence will be appealed by Santi Mina's defence, which alleges that there was consent on the part of the victim. "There was consent: when he asked him to stop, he stopped," alleges Santi Mina's lawyer, Fátima Magdalena Rodríguez.

Santi Mina's defence also stated that there are contradictions in the evidence presented by the defence. "He says that he has been on sick leave for a year and a half. And in the employment report it is clear that he has never been on sick leave". Fatima Magdalena claims that the victim only wants to take money from them.

"There is no other purpose”.

Celta have announced that they are opening disciplinary proceedings against the player in order to elucidate his employment responsibilities in light of this ruling. Provisionally, they claim that Mina has been removed from the team's training sessions. They also argue that they respect the player's right of defence, but that they must take these measures.

David Goldar, Ibiza footballer, has been acquitted of any criminal offence.
